General Information

The subway was opened in 1977. It has 24 km of lines and 19 stations. Its 84 cars carry 93 mln. passengers a year. This subway has a special feature: the tunnels had to be designed to withstand earthquakes up to force 10 on Richter scale.

Part of the system is above the ground, and there is even bridge between stations "Pushkin" and "Khamid Olimjon" over the Salar creek.

Here is a map of the metro indicating its status as of year 1990. Looks like nothing has changed since that time. A post stamp to the right depicts station "Lenin Square" (renamed to what???).
